2K Games has secured Ben Brinkman from the creators of Apex Legends to oversee the studio crew at their internal studio, which is currently working on the forthcoming third-person roguelike extraction-shooter known as Project Ethos.
The new appointee assumes the role of studio head at 31st Union following the dismissal of former leader the ex-Sledgehammer Games executive, who was reportedly let go due to the game's lackluster initial reveal last fall.
Recently, 2K president a key figure notified staff about this decision through an official communication, which highlighted that early feedback sessions had revealed the necessity for a clearer vision.
The president stated that the developers is now refining the project with a renewed vision, aiming to address community desires.
This announcement mirrors a similar action taken by the publisher in the summer, when they brought on Rod Fergusson from the Diablo team to assist with the BioShock development group.

Team—
I know you all just completed your meeting - I hope you’re as enthusiastic as I am with the positive developments. Previously I sent you all a message, I expressed the following: “I am confident in this team. You all are some of the most driven and innovative creators we have had the chance to work with - and we’re eager for that collaboration to endure.”
Given your hard work and adaptability, particularly over the last year, you repeatedly show that.
The player input from last autumn’s Project ETHOS playtest was enlightening. It validated the appeal of a action-packed game but indicated we still had work to do. It uncovered the need for a sharper brand.
It’s been inspiring to see how far you’ve come. You took the feedback to consideration and overhauled the title with a revitalized vision - one that’s poised to fulfill its ambition to our fans.
Our confidence in this project grows every day. To advance the incredible progress you’ve made, I am thrilled to welcome the new hire as the new Lead of 31st Union. Following a period of conversations, he comes aboard us on the specified date.
Ben’s management and expertise in the competitive gaming space is considerable, having dedicated the recent years creating and overseeing some of the most recognizable series in gaming, such as the acclaimed shooter, and more recently, Apex Legends.
Please join me in welcoming Ben in the coming days. We are all looking forward to persist observing the progress of Project ETHOS in the time to come.
David
Brinkman presently holds the position of executive producer and production lead at Respawn Entertainment for Apex Legends. Brinkman earlier worked at major gaming companies in diverse production roles on the Call of Duty games, and, earlier in his career, had stints at other industry leaders.
Project Ethos was announced in last year alongside a public demo. Then, the developers described the title as a "no-cost, third-person perspective roguelike hero shooter and an thrilling evolution on the style."
"Create your ideal gameplay session—or face defeat—in this engaging over-the-shoulder adventure! Build your hero in real-time to fit your unique tactics," the official summary states. "Take on the opponents with new abilities, stakes, and obstacles that evolve every session. Do you leave securely with your collected items? Or take a risk, put it on the line, and trust your squad can earn top ranking? The decision is in your hands."
The game has not yet received an announced launch window or consoles, but fans can look forward to further news as development continues.
